Health Leaders

affiliated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

International Health Leaders was founded with the mission to foster and support the next generation of leaders in public health and medicine. Our core initiative is the IHL program (IHLP) centered around mentorship, professional development, and research.

The International Health Leaders Program is a free, prestigious, application-based virtual opportunity designed for high school students in grades 9-12, affiliated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Through this unique virtual program, culminating in late spring/early summer, we seek to cultivate the next generation of health leaders by offering unparalleled educational experiences, fostering meaningful professional connections, and promoting the sharing and collaboration of innovative research and ideas. Our mission is to nurture a global community of young scholars dedicated to advancing public health and medical sciences.

Accepted participants will have the opportunity to connect with esteemed professionals within the fields of public health & medicine via monthly speaker sessions. Additionally, students will be split up into groups of 3-5 and paired with a graduate student or medical student within the science and public health fields. Each group of students will be matched based on their interests, and the sessions will be formatted in a way that maximizes individualized impact.

In addition to mentorship and networking, students will compete in the IHL Innovate & Educate Student Research Competition. The competition consists of 3 key components: an abstract, a virtual presentation, and a research poster. All completed projects will be featured on the IHL platform, and 3 of those projects will be awarded monetary prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
